Shock omission from Boomers squad

Australia are out to make waves at the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup and push into medal contention with the basketball powerhouses.

Ben Simmons’ withdrawal from the squad was a huge hit on those chances, but with plenty of NBA starpower still on hand the Aussies fancied their chances.

But ahead of several warm up games before the tournament kicks off at the end of the month in China, the Boomers’ team reveal has raised eyebrows among Australian fans.

Coach Andrej Lemanis has seemingly followed in the footsteps of Team USA and decided to leave some big names at home.

With Team USA superstars dropping like flies through withdrawal, an Aussie team full of NBA experienced players was seen as a serious medal fancy.

But Lemanis has reportedly made the call to leave two stars out of the squad, instead opting for a more NBL focused group.

The biggest omission of all is Mitch Creek who has made massive improvements over the past 12 months.

Creek spent time in the NBA with the Brooklyn Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves and has recently returned home as the face of new NBL franchise the South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Along with Creek missing out is another player with NBA experience in Deng Adel along with Brock Motum who was a member of the 2016 Rio Olympics squad.

The inclusions were just as confusing as the omissions with Xavier Cooks, Cameron Gliddon and Nick Kay all earning a call up.

Cooks will make his Boomers debut along with Philadelphia 76ers player Jonah Bolden.
