Amir Khan vs Manny Pacquiao super-fight moves a big step closer

Saudi Arabia are prepared to bankroll Amir Khan’s proposed November 9 clash with Manny Pacquiao.

Brit Khan faces Australian Billy Dib in Jeddah’s King Abdullah Sports City Stadium this Friday night in a ground-breaking fight in Saudi.

The Saudis are keen to stage big contests in the Kingdom and are behind Khan’s offer to Filipino eight-weight world champ Pacquiao for them to meet finally in Jeddah on November 9.

HRH Prince Saud bin Mishal Al Saud, of the ruling royal family, said: “Yes, that’s what we’re working on. We will get that for here and hopefully make it happen.

“It would be amazing if we could make it happen.

“We have a big Pakistani population here, a big Filipino population and a big boxing population here. Fans from all around the region could come and enjoy a fight of this magnitude in the Kingdom, which has never happened before.”

Prince Saud claims Bolton star Khan is the ideal fighter to promote boxing in his country, because he is so well known.

“He’s a good friend of mine,” he said of the former WBA and IBF light welterweight champion. “We meet a lot. He comes to the region a lot, that’s what has allowed our friendship to develop.
