Young Australian Formula 3 driver Alex Peroni can count himself lucky after he walked away from a terrifying accident at Monza.

The Australian was launched into the air off a sausage kerb before his car landed in the barrier and was arrested by catchfencing.

The incident occurred at the high-speed Parabolica turn, which is the final corner of the Monza layout.

Horrible crash ⁦@FIAFormula3⁩ at Monza. So relieved Tassie’s own Alex Peroni was able to walk away from this. Hope flag Marshall’s are ok and Alex isn’t too battered. How the hell could that ripple strip be approved??? ⁦@CamposRacing⁩ ⁦@tasmania⁩ pic.twitter.com/IU84hUx3Ge

Thankfully, the 19-year-old from Hobart walked away from the scene, but was visibly shaken as he was escorted away by medical staff.

The Parabolica area has undergone several changes in the name of safety, but the corner itself has remained the same.

However, the positioning of the sausage kerb will likely come under scrutiny from the FIA, with Peroni’s Campos Racing team certain to request a please-explain following the dramatic incident.

Peroni was running sixth at the time of the accident, with Robert Shwarzman winning the race. He was taken to the medical centre for observation.

It was confirmed the kerb was removed ahead of the final F1 practice session.

The crash comes a week after Formula 2 rookie Anthoine Hubert tragically lost his life in a shocking crash in Belgium, with Juan Manual Correa hospitalised.
