Stars attend green carpet for Ronnie O’Sullivan documentary

Ronnie O’Sullivan insisted that he would not be retiring any time soon after lifting the UK Championship trophy. The Rocket defeated Chinese snooker star Ding Junhui 10-7 in Sunday’s final at the Barbican, proving that the 47-year-old is still at the top of the game despite being one of the most experienced players on the tour.

Shortly after his victory, O’Sullivan discussed his age after several of his peers have already quit the professional game. “I keep beating myself up because of the age thing,” he told the BBC. “I keep thinking at some point I’ve got to stop winning. But I keep doing all right so I’ll keep going until the wheels fall off!”

He then explained how his desire to compete is still strong and competition among elite players such as Ding inspires him to keep playing and prolong his retirement.

“Each tournament I win, I take great pleasure in,” he added. “Tonight I just had to come out with a good head – I thought, if I’m going to lose, make Ding earn it.

“There was a big crowd and everyone was watching so I wanted to leave blood, sweat and tears on the table if I didn’t win. I gave it my all, I love competing and I loved competing with Ding tonight.”
