Briefs encounter, Marnus! Australia batter Labuschagne reveals Ashes victory PANTS during the World Test Championship final – celebrating their 4-0 series win over England in 2021-22
- Marnus Labuschagne showed off colourful pants to mark 2021-22 Ashes win
- The Australian batter revealed them during the World Test Championship final
- Labuschagne will hope to continue winning ways against England next week
Marnus Labuschagne showed off Ashes victory pants ahead of this summer’s series, which sees Australia defending their title in England.
Australia are playing India at The Oval in the World Test Championship final, which acts as a warm-up ahead of the Ashes, which begin next week. They’ve built a solid lead in the Test, with further play planned for Saturday and Sunday.
And at one point in Friday’s proceedings in London, Labuschagne was seen wearing swimming shorts that commemorate Australia’s 4-0 win the last time the pair met in the Southern Hemisphere in 2021 and 2022.
Labuschagne featured in all five matches during that successful Ashes run, and was the second highest runscorers in the 2021-22 series, making a best batting score of 103 during the opening innings of the second Test.
He also hit two sixes during the opening Test, as Australia won by 9 wickets in Brisbane, which set them up to continue to command the rest of the Ashes series.

The reveal came during Australia’s World Test Championship final against India at The Oval
The batter will hope to replicate Australia’s 4-0 win last time out over the next two months
After sealing a series win with a 3-0 lead, the fourth Test was drawn, before sealing the fifth in Hobart by 146 runs in January 2022.
Last week, Labuschagne rejected claims by England’s Stuart Broad that the series win was void because of the country’s Covid restrictions at the time.
Labuschagne said ‘we dominated that series’, and he decided to celebrate the victory with his colourful pants, with pictures from the series, over the top of a pair of blue Nike shorts.
The winning ways will be something that the visitors will hope to replicate when they start the next Ashes series next week, with the opening Test at Edgbaston between June 16 and June 20.
Further matches in the series will be played at Lord’s, Headingley, Old Trafford and The Oval during June and July, to decide if England will win The Ashes, or if Australia can retain or win them again.
Labuschagne was caught napping during Australia’s second innings against India at The Oval
The World Test Championship final against India has been a good opportunity for the Australian players to test themselves, much like England did during their comprehensive victory over Ireland last week.
While most of the squad arrived in the week leading up to the World Test Championship final, Labuschagne has been playing country cricket in the UK since April, lining up for Glamorgan on the domestic circuit.
Earlier in Australia’s second innings against India, the 28-year-old batter was caught fast asleep, although he quickly woke up to the sound of the opposing crowd, when his services were required after David Warner’s dismissal for just one run.
The world’s top-ranked Test batsman made just 26 runs in the first innings, but had hit 41 not out by stumps on Friday.
