Michigan State vs. Kansas: Tip-off time, how to watch 2018 Champions Classic

Kansas takes on Michigan State in the first game of the 2018 Champions Classic.

The Jayhawks and Spartans each made the NCAA Tournament last season. Michigan State lost to Syracuse in the Round of 32 while Kansas fell to Villanova in the national semifinals. The Champions Classic will mark the first meeting between these two teams since the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament in 2017. In that game, Kansas dominated Michigan State 90-70 to advance to the Sweet 16.

Michigan State lost several key players from last year’s team to the NBA, as Miles Bridges and Jaren Jackson were both lottery picks in the draft this past summer. In terms of top recruits, the Spartans don’t have any heralded prospects like last year. According to 247Sports Composite Rankings, Marcus Bingham Jr. is the highest-rated recruit that signed with Michigan State, and one of two top-100 recruits signed by Tom Izzo in the offseason.

Kansas looks to recover from the losses of Devonte’ Graham and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk to the NBA Draft, but it looks well equipped heading into the showdown with Duke. Led by Quentin Grimes, the Jayhawks bring in three top-40 recruits this season. Throw them into the mix with Kansas’ other returning players, and the Jayhawks are a formidable squad.
