Andy Ruiz says he’s ‘here and ready’ to fight Tyson Fury after the Brit’s ‘crazy’ victory over Deontay Wilder which reminded him of his shock win over Anthony Joshua last summer.
Fury demolished Wilder at the MGM Grand to clinch the WBC world heavyweight title, flooring the American in the third and fifth rounds before the towel was thrown in in the seventh.
Wilder has since confirmed his plans to trigger a rematch clause which would see a third showdown take place later this year at a new 72,000 NFL stadium currently under construction on the Las Vegas strip.
However, Ruiz – who lost to Joshua in their rematch back in December – has thrown his hat in the ring to fight Fury should the Bronze Bomber opt against a trilogy bout.
Asked for his reaction to Fury’s emphatic win in Las Vegas, Ruiz told PBC on Fox: ‘I think Tyson Fury did an awesome job. He did everything that he had and his ability, his long reach and all that and he’s the man right now.
‘I had flashbacks to my fight [with Joshua] on June 1. It was kind of similar, it was in the same round as well so it’s pretty crazy but good for Tyson Fury.
‘I think Tyson Fury did what he had to do, he stuck to the game-plan.
‘I’m pretty sure he could do it again and I could do it too so, if they pick me, I’m here and I’m ready.’
Ruiz would be the far shorter fighter (6 ft 2 in) should he get in the ring with Fury (6 ft 9 in), a factor which the Gypsy King used to his advantage against Wilder last Saturday.
‘He did [use his height advantage] and after that hit in the ear, he never recovered from that,’ Ruiz said.
‘His legs were weak, they were wobbly, even other punches that he tried to throw, they didn’t have a lot of power so I think Tyson Fury did an awesome job.
‘I was really shocked because I thought Deontay Wilder was going to win.
‘I just want a shot with Tyson Fury as well.’
On the ‘biggest attainable’ fight available to him right now, Ruiz responded: ‘Everybody is talking about [Luis] Ortiz. Me and Ortiz would be a great fight.
‘If not, I don’t know if Tyson Fury is looking for somebody.
‘I’ve just just got to get a fight and then I want to fight again.’
Asked about a potential trilogy fight with Joshua, Ruiz replied: ‘There’s something like that but hopefully we can negotiate and fight by the end of this year.’
