‘What the f*** is Wilder talking about?’: Tyson Fury’s promoter Bob Arum slams Deontay for accusing the Gypsy King of ‘lying’ about testing positive for Covid-19 in order to get out of their trilogy fight before it was rescheduled

  • The fight was originally scheduled to take place in July before Fury pulled out
  • Fury tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks before the fight was to take place

  • Bob Arum though has slammed Wilder for his accusations surrounding Fury

Tyson Fury’s promoter Bob Arum has hit out at Deontay Wilder following the American’s accusations that the Gypsy King tried to get out of the fight by testing positive for Covid-19.

The pair are set to square off for the third time in Las Vegas on October 9 with the Bronze Bomber keen to exact revenge for his February 2020 defeat to Fury.

They were originally scheduled to meet in July only for the Gypsy King to test positive for Covid two weeks before the bout was set to take place.

Wilder has slammed Fury for ‘lying’ about the test to try and get out of their trilogy bout.

In response to Wilder, Arum has told ‘I don’t know what [Wilder] believes or what he doesn’t believe.

‘But what he should at least look into is the fact that once Fury got Covid, he immediately contacted the commission, or somebody did, and the commission doctors examined him and diagnosed him with Covid.

The pair were originally scheduled to fight back in July before the Gypsy King pulled out

“So, what the f*** is Wilder talking about? I mean, it isn’t like a fighter is out and says, ‘I need a postponement because I sprained my leg jogging.’ Then there’s always questions. ‘Was he really hurt?’ Blah, blah, blah.

“But here, it’s something that is completely able to be checked out with the commission. So, why should he believe me, Wilder? He shouldn’t. Why should he believe Fury? If he doesn’t want to, he shouldn’t. But check it out with the commission that has no motive at all to lie.”

The heavy-hitting American is adamant Fury will explore every avenue to evade their scheduled fight and demanded this week he be awarded the WBC world strap and his full pay cheque if the Manchester heavyweight pulls out.

A furious Wilder told 78SPORTSTV: ‘I’m just tired of the lies. That’s all it is, lies.

‘That’s what I believe. And a lot of other people do too – the whole world believes it’s nothing but lies.

‘And it really sickens me to hear that because so many people have died of COVID.

‘People I know have had family members to die of it. To hear others using this as an excuse to get out of something is just horrible man.’

He continued: ‘May they burn in hell for that. Especially for something like this. Because the dude said he had COVID, then the next minute you see him in so many different places. It’s just ridiculous.

‘He’s been trying to run away from me since July of last year. He’s paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to try to avoid me.

‘They came up with so many excuses to try to avoid me. They contradict themselves so many different times and it’s just ridiculous at this point. You need to put up or shut up.’

Fury looked set to face British heavyweight rival Anthony Joshua before he was ordered to fight Wilder as part of their trilogy agreement.

Both the Gypsy King and Wilder have not fought since Fury’s victory over the American back in February 2020.
