Billy Joe Saunders claims victory in row with Canelo Alvarez over size of ring

Billy Joe Saunders believes he has won his fight to have a larger ring in place for his clash with Canelo Alvarez on Saturday.

The Brit had threatened to pull out of the super-middleweight unification clash with John Ryder on stand-by to replace him.

Alvarez was left to carry out promotional duties alone on Tuesday when Saunders failed to show up for a planned face-off.

But after the Mexican said he didn't care about the size of the ring, Saunders claimed he issue was resolved.

In a video posted by Saunders, Alvarez said: "I don't care about the size of the ring, I'm just going to go in there and do my job. It's not the only excuse he's had, he's had plenty of excuses. I'm just going to go in there and so what I have to do."

Saunders then added: "I'm pleased the issue is sorted. The ring is not a problem so thumbs are up, I'm chilling back watching a few films so Eddie [Hearn] get the ring in."

Alvarez was also caught up in a row with Saunders' team as he made his way through the hotel lobby.

A member of the Brit's entourage shouted: "What's happening with the ring? We've come a long way, grow some b******s."

Canelo replied: "You are a f***ing p***y."

Earlier, Saunders' dad Tom had insisted his son was prepared to fly home.

"I can't say them coming face to face because the issue with the ring has still not been sorted," he told iFL TV.

"There is nothing in the contract about the ring size, it's all about negotiations and negotiations have broken down big time.

"Canelo has put an 18-foot ring, which I think is an amateur ring, as the fight ring. His plan was to put an 18-foot ring there, knowing we were going to start [complaining] and he said right, 20 foot ring, that was his game plan.
