Campbell vs Garcia postponed after the Brit tested positive for Covid

Luke Campbell’s lightweight clash with Ryan Garcia POSTPONED after Brit tests positive for coronavirus – but Eddie Hearn is still targeting the fight for December

  • Campbell is not suffering serious symptoms and should only need two weeks off
  • Eddie Hearn working with Golden Boy promotions in order to secure a new date
  • The fight was scheduled for 5th December but could take place later that month

Luke Campbell’s December 5 clash with American prospect Ryan Garcia has been postponed after the Hull lightweight tested positive for coronavirus.

Eddie Hearn confirmed on Tuesday night that he and Golden Boy are working to secure a new date, perhaps as early as late December, for the rescheduled fight.

London 2012 gold medallist Campbell, 33, is not suffering serious symptoms and Hearn claimed he should need only two weeks off, meaning the fight could still take place this year or early in 2021.

The intriguing lightweight clash between Campbell and rising star Garcia, slated for Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in California, was also due to be the launch event for DAZN’s global expansion.

The streaming service will still open in the UK and more than 200 territories worldwide on December 1, as planned, with the starting price at £1.99.

22-year-old American Ryan Garcia may still face Campbell later in the year, or early in 2021

Now, though, Anthony Joshua’s world heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev on December 12 will be their first major event – everywhere except the UK and Ireland.

Campbell’s positive test is another blow for DAZN after they lost Canelo Alvarez earlier this month.

The Mexican superstar is now a free agent after issues developed between with Golden Boy and DAZN, culminating in Canelo filing a lawsuit.
