ESPN boxing reporter Salvador Rodriguez has dropped a huge hint that Canelo Alvarez could be set to take on Jake Paul after confirming the Mexican’s next bout will ‘not be for boxing purists’.
YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul has been seen as somewhat of a controversial figure since making a career change into the ring, with many doubting his credentials as a professional fighter.
The American’s most recent victory came over former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, who he knocked out in the sixth round of their December bout in Tampa.
Following his second victory over Woodley, Paul called out Canelo in what would be his first fight against an established boxer after previously fighting UFC stars, and a basketballer.
Paul’s call out for the Mexican was expected by many to fall on deaf ears due to Canelo’s established reputation within the sport.
However Rodriguez’s comments surrounding his next bout have left many believing a match up with Paul could well be on the cards.
Alvarez – who has established himself as boxing's No.1 pound-for-pound fighter – recently unified all four of the super-middleweight division titles in just 11 months and four fights following his latest victory over Caleb Plant.

As well as Paul there have however been rumours that Canelo could take on Joe Smith Jr after he defended his WBO light-heavyweight title against Steve Geffrard.
When asked post-fight if he was up for taking on the Mexican in the ring Smith replied: “If Canelo wants to come and fight me, I'm ready for him.
“That's the fight I want. Everybody would love to see that fight – it would be a big deal."

Promoter Bob Arum also confirmed that there was potential interest from Canelo’s camp to take on the American light-heavyweight or undefeated IBF and WBC champion Artur Beterbiev.
He told Sky Sports: “The ball is in Canelo's court.
"Canelo is the biggest attraction in boxing now, he's a tremendous talent and a tremendous fighter, and he more or less picks his opponents.
He also tries to get the best guys. So, he could fight [Artur] Beterbiev, he could fight Smith, but it's up to Canelo, and I think he's looking to do a fight in May."
