Deontay Wilder warned only one heavyweight ‘has the balls’ to fight him

Andy Ruiz Jr is the only fighter that “has the balls” to step into the ring with Deontay Wilder, according to John Fury. The father of Tyson Fury feels as though the Mexican is the only option for Wilder’s team as an initial agreement with Anthony Joshua may collapse.

Wilder and Joshua were meant to fight in December, but it’s now looking less likely to take place due to complications with finalising a deal to host the event in Saudi Arabia.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that they were still waiting for a contract, but they may begin looking for a new venue and a new opponent altogether. Joshua has struggled ever since losing to Ruiz Jr and hasn’t looked the same since losing consecutive fights against Oleksandr Usyk.

John Fury is certain that his son is the greatest boxer around, and Tyson remains the only fighter to knock out Wilder following their stunning trilogy series. But he also has respect for Ruiz Jr and has recommended the fight to Wilder’s team

“The only one out there who can challenge Tyson, and they all avoid him and they won’t fight him, is Deontay Wilder,” Fury said to FreeBets. “They’re all terrified of him, and Tyson straightened him up three times!

“All those people will never get in with “The Bronze Bomber”. Usyk, AJ, none of them will fight him. Andy Ruiz Jr will – for a price. Because he’s got big you know what’s, and if the money is right and it makes good business sense, I can only see Andy Ruiz fighting him.

“He’s the only one who comes to mind who is in that bracket. He’s the only one who’s going to fight Deontay Wilder because there rest are terrified. They know what’s coming.”

It looks like Wilder may be looking for a new opponent, especially after Fury’s boxing promoter Frank Warren disclosed his own sources surrounding the agreement. “The Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua situation, I know their people had conversations and thought that it would happen, but I never thought it would happen, and it’s not,” he told iFL TV.

“The problem is, the amount of money they felt they were going to get paid or they heard they were going to get paid, they’re not going to achieve that anywhere. That’s not going to happen.”

It’s a fight that could either revive or end Joshua’s career, as he’s failed to impress against a top talent in years. A win against Wilder could have restored his pride, but a loss would be extremely detrimental to his career and image.
