Hughie Fury will not face world champion Anthony Joshua after losing to Kubrat Pulev in Bulgaria.
Victory over the veteran would have guaranteed Fury a shot at his fellow Brit, perhaps as soon as April next year..
But after a promising start, Fury was cut in the second round and struggled to impose himself on the older man.
Instead it will be Pulev, who was due to face Joshua last year before he suffered an injury, who will get a shot at the undefeated champion.
The Bulgarian was given the nod by scores of 117-111, 118-110, 115-113.
