Oleksandr Usyk vows to "punish" Tyson Fury and mocks "King of Kings" tag

Oleksandr Usyk has said that he is confident of "punishing" fellow heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and says the Englishman’s "King of Kings" label is a myth.

Usyk became unified WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO champion last month after he defeated Anthony Joshua on points, thanks to a boxing masterclass at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in front of 65,000 people.

After defeating Joshua and taking the three titles the pair are set to face off again in 2022, after the Englishman activated the rematch clause in their fight contract as he looks to win back the crowns he lost in London.

However it seems that Joshua is not the only British heavyweight the Ukrainian has his eye on, after revealing to the Sun that he is confident of taking on, and beating Fury at some point in the future.

When asked about potentially taking on the Gypsy King he said: "Yes, of course, I do regard this fight a huge one.

“I see him as a very good fighter, good athlete, he talks a lot, he has a tongue.

"He claims he’s the King of the Kings, but it’s only he who thinks that. That’s what I can say about him."

Do you think Usyk would beat Fury? Let us know in the comments section below.

Usyk went into his bout against Joshua in September as the underdog to many, however the 34-year-old proved all of his doubters wrong when dominating the English heavyweight from start to finish.

As a result, he believes this again would be the case with Fury, and once again he is out to prove he is the strongest fighter in the heavyweight division.

He added: "Before my Joshua fight everyone was saying that I haven’t got a single chance to win and beat Joshua.

"I used to hear those types of things throughout my life, but I am capable of beating Fury because I’m not boasting that I can just punish and beat every boxer in the world, but I just go to the gym and do my job.

"I train hard, I work hard, I put all my effort in. I’m not trying to present myself as the king of the Universe.

"I do what I have to do. I concentrate and I’m focused and I get the result according to my effort."

Usyk also went on to discuss Fury’s boxing style that has been so successful for the Gypsy King throughout his career.

He commented: “I can’t comment much on his style because every fighter has his own style according to his own abilities and his own tendencies.

"So, I think the main thing is his style brings him the victories. That’s the main thing. Some people like it, some people do not. But he is successful."
