Terence Crawford slams Jermell Charlo’s performance against Canelo Alvarez and claims the American was just trying to survive in the ring
- Canelo Alvarez beat Jermell Charlo by unanimous decision in Las Vegas
- Terence Crawford was not impressed with Charlo’s performance on Saturday
- Crawford said Charlo should be ‘ashamed of himself’ as he didn’t try to win
Terence Crawford was not impressed with Jermell Charlo’s performance against Canelo Alvarez on Saturday evening and said the 33-year-old should be ‘ashamed of himself’.
Canelo secured a unanimous 119-108, 118-109 and 118-109 win over the younger Charlo brother to keep hold of his WBO, WBC, WBA and IBF belts at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Charlo had a few impressive moments in the fourth and fifth rounds, but was knocked down in the seventh round and ultimately outclassed by the Mexican superstar.
Crawford took to social media after the fight to say Charlo looked as though he was trying to ‘survive’ rather than win the bout. He also said the Mexican made Charlo look like a ‘baby cub’ in the ring.
Crawford’s comments came after Charlo called him out in the ring. The American said the following after his bout with Canelo: ‘Hey, I want to fight Terence Crawford. I can fight Terence Crawford in my weight division.’

Charlo went on to add: ‘I know he’s somewhere around this joint. I’ll fight Terence Crawford. He can fight Errol Spence or whatever he got going on, get that out of the way. I’m waiting.’
However, Crawford has shown no interest in fighting Charlo after watching Canelo dismantle the American on Saturday night. Speaking after the bout, Crawford said: ‘Jermell Charlo, you went out sad.
‘Didn’t even try to win, all you did was try to survive. You should be ashamed of yourself. Congratulations Canelo you made the so called lion look like a baby cub.’
Crawford was also heard saying: ‘Ok y’all I’m over Jermell Charlo he’s no longer on my hit list. He went out there and laid down and let Canelo spank him like he was his daddy with no type of resistance.’
Saturday night’s defeat was the second of Charlo’s 38-fight career, having stepped up multiple weight classes for the bout in Las Vegas.
