Tommy Fury was "terrible on purpose" in last fight to secure Jake Paul showdown

Tommy Fury failed to impress during his United States debut in a victory that went the distance against Anthony Taylor back in August – but the entire fight might just have been a clever ruse.

The former Love Island star is ready to take on arch rival Jake Paul on a bumper December fight card despite the YouTuber's previous attempts to distance himself from the bout.

Tommy, who has stated that he expects to gain no boxing credibility from beating Jake, has said that he sees the event as a money-making step in his career.

Tyson Fury has now given his thoughts on why his brother Tommy failed to secure a stoppage victory against Taylor on his US debut earlier this year, which was on the undercard of Paul vs Tyron Woodley.

Fury said in a chat with Queensberry Promotions' YouTube channel: "Tommy looked terrible on purpose so he could get this fight, that is what clever people do.

"Tommy could have his worst night ever and still beat Jake Paul.

"He could probably turn up with broken ribs, a broken left hand, two left feet, his clothes on back to front and a flu and he would still beat him.

"That is how confident I am that he can beat Jake Paul."

Tommy has backed himself to secure a first-round knockout on December 18, having admitted after his seventh, and most recent victory, that it wasn't his best performance.

He said: "It wasn't my best performance but at the end of the day if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

"I'm learning day by day and I'm getting better. There was no danger at all, tonight went the way it went because it's in God's hands.

"Looking at that, Jake Paul should have an easy night so there are no excuses now."

With Jake saying earlier this week: "He doesn't have a chin. He's never been hit hard by anybody.

"He has fought nobody. He couldn't crack an egg!"
