Trainer Angela Davies is on the lookout for a new jockey for Through The Cracks as she prepares to test her stable star over further in next Saturday’s Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.
Leading jockey James McDonald had ridden the Provincial Championships winner to a last start victory at Newcastle but is unable to make the 53kg allocated to Through The Cracks in the $160,000 feature.
Glen Boss was also poised to take the ride but will be unable to ride at the Rosehill meeting as he continues to quarantine after spending time in Melbourne.
“We will just have to wait and see because I would like to race him with his true weight at 53kg,” Davies said.
“James McDonald said to me, sorry I can’t make that weight if you go to that race and we had booked Glen Boss but he hasn’t be able to get clearance.
“There will be no shortage of people who want the ride but they will need to be able to ride light.”

The Festival Stakes will be Through The Cracks first foray into stakes racing at start number 16.
The six-year-old has continued to improve with age after winning the Provincial Championships in April and Davies is hopeful his best is yet to come.
His last performance when attacking the line to salute in a benchmark 88 over 1300m at Newcastle encouraged the trainer to test Through The Cracks in Saturday’s assignment.
“He is going good,” Davies said.
“He lost two kilos last run but put that back on quickly so the racing is not worrying him at all.
“It will be interesting to see how he goes over his first time at 1500m.
“He has only run up to 1400m so far but I have been wanting to try him over further.
“James McDonald was confident he would comfortably get over further.”
A strong showing on Saturday could see Davies test Through The Cracks over a mile later this preparation.
“If he races well on Saturday and hits the line again, you would have to give him the chance over a mile,” she said.
“It would open some nice doors.”
Nominations for the Festival Stakes will be released on Monday.
