Sir Dragonet wins 100th running of Cox Plate

Sir Dragonet has won the 100th running of the Cox Plate in a thrilling upset.

In Australia’s premier weight-for-age contest, a field of 14 battled it out for the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in Melbourne, with Sir Dragonet securing the victory.

After “the best two minutes in sport”, Armory and Russian Camelot finished in second and third respectively, while Mugatoo crossed the finish line in fourth.

Although Russian Camelot was the undisputed favourite leading into the event, Sir Dragonet will take home $3 million of the $5 million worth of prize money.

One of the performances that might fly under the radar from #CoxPlate100 was Luke Currie on Fierce Impact. Came into this with good soft track form and relished the conditions. He was able to match it with his much better backed rivals.

Brilliant edition of the Cox Plate.. cracking race and how’s the front on Bossy on the finish line! ? Stewards might not have enjoyed it as much! #CoxPlate100

After winning his fourth Cox Plate, jockey Glenn Boss told Channel 7: “This is unbelievable. This is unbelievable.

“I couldn’t have scripted the run any better. He just gave me a lovely ride … I was just twitching my fingers throughout the race.

“This is a really proud moment for me. You know, like I said, growing up and watching this race, to think now I’ve joined Thompson and Hugh Bowman as the most winning jockeys of this race, it is a place to be cherished to be honest.”
