Nick Diaz is planning on making another sensational return to the octagon for later this year and he wants to face the pound-for-pound king – Kamaru Usman.
The 38-year-old has only fought once since 2015 – a TKO defeat by Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 back in September – and now wants a blockbuster bout for when he makes a comeback for the ‘end of this year’.
Despite his lack of activity in UFC, the legendary Californian fighter wants a title shot against the Nigerian Nightmare.

When asked if he was planning a return to the octagon, Diaz told TMZ Sports: ‘We’re working on the end of the year.’
The UFC veteran also revealed he’s not looking to make a comeback against one of the ‘young guys’, insisting that he has bigger fish to fry given his age.
‘I don’t need to go in there and get my ass whooped by one of them young guys anyway, and it’s not that I won’t win,’ Diaz added. ‘It’s just I’m not motivated.
‘I want fight for the title. I don’t want do all this – I’m 38 years old.’
When probed on a potential welterweight title fight with Usman – who is currently unbeaten since May 2013 – Diaz insisted: ‘I think I’ll beat him.’
The 38-year-old has fought just once since 2015, which saw him suffer a third-round TKO defeat by Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 back in September
Usman is already being earmarked for the main event of UFC 278 on August 20 with British star Leon Edwards.
Dana White confirmed ‘Rocky’ is next in line when asked about it during UFC London back in March but nothing has been announced.
Usman is recovering from surgery on his hand but according to Ariel Helwani, the UFC have zeroed in on the Salt Lake City event this summer for the champion’s rematch with Edwards.
Edwards last tasted defeat in 2015 in his first clash with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ in a unanimous decision.
Both men have developed significantly since then and British hopes are high that the Birmingham fighter can become the second UFC champion from these shores after Michael Bisping.
Edwards dominated Nick’s brother, Nate, in his last fight despite a late wobble in the fifth round and should pose a real threat to Usman.
But now Diaz wants an immediate title shot at Usman, instead of facing ‘younger guys’
But the 35-year-old is a dominant champion and now has a real ability to knock out opponents to go with his impressive wrestling.
He has been vocal in his desire to face Canelo Alvarez in a lucrative boxing match but the interest in such a crossover fight from elsewhere has been limited.
Crucially Dana White is vehemently against the idea so Usman will have to stick with MMA for the time being and concentrate on the challenge posed by Edwards or Diaz for later this year.
