James Washington makes ‘phenomenal’ 40-yard catch for Steelers in Browns battle

James Washington stunned the Heinz Field crowd on Sunday with a sensational grab as his superb touchdown proved pivotal for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Cleveland Browns were initially winning on the road yesterday, having led the NFL clash 3-0 after the first quarter.

But Washington’s stunning catch in the second period helped shift the momentum in the hosts’ favour.

The Steelers went on to win 20-13 as they kept their playoff hopes alive.

Pittsburgh’s 7-5 record looks far healthier now and they have Washington to thank for a potentially season-defining moment this weekend.

With a minute remaining before the end of the second quarter and the score poised at 10-3 to Cleveland, quarterback Devlin Hodges scanned the field and made an ambitious throw towards Washington.

The 23-year-old wide receiver was stumbling over the touchdown line before the ball had even reached him due to pressure from the Browns defender T.J. Carrie.

However, after initially fumbling the catch, the ball got stuck on the body of Sheldrick Redwine before Washington collected it again.

The No.13 sent the home fans wild, while Redwine simply could not believe the touchdown had been completed.

He insisted immediately to the officials it should not count, but the video footage proved otherwise.
