Mark Purslow, 29, becomes latest rider to die in Isle of Man TT crash

Welsh rider Mark Purslow has died following a crash during qualifying at the 2022 Isle of Man TT.

A statement from Isle of Man TT Races read: "The Isle of Man TT Races regrets to confirm that Mark Purslow, 29, from Llanon, Ceredigion, was killed in an incident during the fourth qualifying session of the 2022 Isle of Man TT Races.

"The accident occurred at Ballagarey, before the fourth-mile marker, on his third lap of the session." The statement confirmed that Mark had set his quickest ever time at the event earlier in the session, it added: "The TT Races will continue – but always with Mark in mind."

Manx GP Director, Jim Hunter, tweeted: "It takes a special kind of talent to win a Manx GP race at your first attempt. Mark Purslow was just that… Thoughts and condolences with Mark’s family and friends at this most difficult time.

"The sport that we love so much, can be so cruel. Thinking of your family, friends and team tonight. RIP," added another. A third tweeted: "Another road warrior rides in the sky. Mark Purslow you will never be forgotten."

A fourth tweeted: "Mark. You were a true ambassador for the sport. Always smiling and full of positivity. A real professional on and off the track."

An accident at the event earlier this week saw Dave Moffitt airlifted to hospital.

Moffitt suffered "extensive injuries" in the crash and had undergone surgery – but he is said to be "stable".
