Mark Selby sends supportive message to wife Vikki after final defeat

Mark Selby directed a heartfelt message to his wife Vikki after losing the World Snooker Championship final at the Crucible on Monday. After falling 18-15 to Belgium’s Luca Brecel in Sheffield, the four-time world champion insisted’ health was more important’.

Selby showcased a commendable fightback on Monday evening to reduce Brecel’s lead from 16-10 to 16-15, but the latter held his nerve to become snooker’s first world champion from the European mainland.

After the match, being heralded as one of the greatest Crucible finals of all time, Selby made sure to put the loss into perspective as he sent his wife support.

He told BBC Sport: “12 months ago, it was just nice to come back and just play and try to enjoy it. From where I’ve been to where I am now, I’ve enjoyed the last two weeks.

“It didn’t finish how I wanted it to, but with things going off the table as well, not just with me but with Vikki as well, you know, obviously I realise that health is more important.

“This is a game, a game that you want to win, but if you don’t, it’s not the end of the world.”
