The Tour de France is one of the toughest sporting events on the planet, and riders race over 3,000km while losing an estimated 1,200 calories each day.
And cyclists, through legal means or not, have looked for ways to dampen the effect of the endurance event on the body.
But former professional Mario Cipollini once took an interesting approach to increase his testosterone levels during the event.
The Italian, for the 1999 edition of the event, taped a picture of Pamela Anderson to his handlebars.
Anderson was, at that point, one of the biggest celebrities on the planet, thanks to her starring role in Baywatch.
Amazingly, it appeared to work as Cipollini won four stages in a row during the first week of the Tour before packing his bags and heading home as the race hit the mountains.
It was an action that rubbed the organisers up the wrong way, and he was never invited back.
He even rolled up to the start of one stage dressed up as Julius Cesar, because it was the anniversary of his birthday.
Cipollini created something of a character in the peloton – he was spotted taking phone calls mid-race and smoking at the back of the pack.

However, it shouldn't be a surprise that Cipollini once tapped the pic of Anderson on his bike, and he is on record as saying: "If I wasn’t a rider, I’d be a porn star."
In an interview with Rouleur, when asked if he had more victories or women the Italian said: "If I only had 198 women, the same numbers as my victories, I’d have to be considered a loser."
Before later adding if he wanted to go to heaven or hell: "I hope I’ll go wherever the women are, that is to say, where the cock crows.
"And you know why the cock crows? Because Mother Nature, or the good lord, made chickens without underwear."
