Rockets’ Russell Westbrook diagnosed with quad injury, will miss final seed-in games

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook had an MRI in Orlando that showed he has a strained quadricep muscle in his right leg, general manager Daryl Morey said in a news release Wednesday.

Westbrook will miss the Rockets' final seed-in games, including Wednesday against the Indiana Pacers and Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Rockets said they will re-evaluate his status before the playoffs start on Aug. 17.

He missed the beginning of a resumed training camp after testing positive for the coronavirus before the team left for Orlando in early July. But he returned in time to practice and scrimmage before the season restart.
