If you thought last week was difficult with four teams on bye, try having six off this week. With quarterbacks such as Andrew Luck, Carson Wentz, and Andy Dalton all idle, our Week 9 fantasy QB rankings are a bit thinner than usual. Still, thanks to the strength of the position, there are still plenty of quality sleepers that fantasy owners can plug and play, many of whom have favorable matchups.
Notably, Alex Smith has an excellent matchup with the Falcons, and that could be his chance for a breakout game. Baker Mayfield (vs. Chiefs) will also have to throw a lot to keep pace with Patrick Mahomes and the excellent Chiefs offense. And, of course, Mitchell Trubisky, who is already on a bit of a hot streak, gets to take on the Bills. Buffalo hasn’t been playing well lately and even at home, they could have a tough time corralling Trubisky — especially if they choose to unload some of their defensive playmakers ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
Week 9 Rankings:
Running Back | Wide Receiver | Tight End | D/ST | Kicker
We’re also giving Deshaun Watson a minor bump up in the rankings after his five-TD performance. We’re still a bit wary of trusting him as a QB1 against the Broncos, but with so many QBs on bye, Watson would be a fine start — provided that he continues to get healthier after his mini-bye.
Note: We’ll be updating our QB rankings throughout the week, so check back often.
