Klay Thompson’s injury is a total bummer

This is the Morning Win, by Andy Nesbitt.

Shortly before the NBA draft started on Wednesday night we all heard that Warriors star Klay Thompson had suffered a lower leg injury while playing in a pickup game in Los Angeles.

Then we started hearing reports during the draft that it was likely a bad injury  and would probably knock him out of the upcoming season.

Well, on Thursday that news was confirmed and it stunk – Thompson tore his Achilles and is out for the 2020-21 season before it even began.

This news is a total bummer, and I'm not even a Warrirors fan. I'm just a basketball fan who likes watching the best players in the world doing their things on the court and now we don't get to watch Thompson for a second consecutive year.

The last time we saw Thompson in a NBA game was way back in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals when he came back out on the court to shoot some free throws moments after tearing his ACL. It was an incredible moment for an incredible player who has so much heart.

He missed all of last season because of that serious injury and the Warriors went on to be one of the worst teams in the league without him (and Kevin Durant, who joined the Nets).

The loss of Thompson yet again is crushing for the Warriors. It's also crushing for NBA fans.

The league is a lot better when the Splash Brothers (Thompson and Stephen Curry) are healthy and lighting teams up.

The league is also a lot better when the Splash Brothers and the Warriors are in contention for a title. They were missed in the NBA bubble this past summer and they will be likely missed next summer, too. The NBA needs a villain-type team and the Warriors, thanks to all their recent success, fill that role.

But it stinks most of all for Thompson, who seems to be a really good dude and a really fun dude to hang out. At 30 years of age he's now going to lose two complete seasons of his prime and who knows how he'll be when he returns from these two devastating injuries.

It's a total bummer all around.
