NFL legend’s fake cry goes viral

Vernon Davis may be retired from the NFL, but he’s still making headlines in the football world after one of the most bizarre SportsCenter interviews in recent memory.

The former tight end called time on his career when he was a part of Rob Gronkowski’s ‘retirement crew’ FOX parody earlier this month, and has big plans outside of the NFL, with the 36-year-old telling Elle Duncan and Matt Barrie he was about to film a new movie.

“We’re doing a movie called Red Winter, which will take place in Denver,” Davis, who made appearances in Baywatch and The League during his career, told ESPN.

“We’ll be shooting for about three weeks, and I’m getting geared up for that.”

Understandably intrigued, Barrie wanted to see the big man, who played 14 seasons in the NFL, in action.

“Give me a line real quick,” Barrie asked. “Let me set you up for one of your lines. What should I say to you to set you up?”

After a bit more back-and-forth, Davis decided against a one-liner; going with the classic fake cry instead.

A strange 10 seconds followed; Davis not holding back.

“Wait a minute,” Duncan said. “My first reaction was to comfort you.”

The original video posted to Twitter has been viewed nearly three million users, retweeted 9,000 times and has over 56,000 likes.

He was too late for a 2020 Oscars nod, but keep an eye out for next year.
