It wouldn’t be an NFL Thanksgiving game without memorable halftime performances during the Cowboys and Lions games.
The Cowboys use their halftime show on Thanksgiving to kick off the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. This is the 25th year of their partnership. The performer headlining halftime this year is country music star Luke Combs.
The Lions will have a halftime show for the first time in two years after last year’s performance was canceled due to the pandemic. This year’s performer is Big Sean, who grew up in Detroit and is a big Lions fan.
Here’s what you need to know about the halftime performances during the Thanksgiving games in 2021.
Cowboys halftime show for Thanksgiving
In their 25th year partnering with the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, the Cowboys will be promoting holiday donations. This year’s halftime performer is country music star Luke Combs.
“Luke Comb’s energy and spirit are just what we need to put a spotlight on the campaign in this milestone year and especially when so many people are struggling due to pandemic poverty,” said Charlotte Jones, executive vice president and chief brand officer for the Cowboys and former national advisory board chairperson for The Salvation Army . “We are so excited to have Combs perform on our national stage for a halftime show that I’m sure will inspire hope and generosity.”
In its 25 year history, the Cowboys halftime show has brought various artists, such as ane Brown, Ellie Goulding, Meghan Trainor, Thomas Rhett, Eric Church, Luke Bryan, Selena Gomez and Kenny Chesney, to name a few.
Who is Luke Combs?
Combs, 31, was named the 2021 Entertainer of the Year at this year’s CMA’s. This will be his first time headlining a Thanksgiving game halftime show. Combs is originally from North Carolina and said he is a huge football fan. He also is friends with Ezekiel Elliott.
“Considering I’m a huge football fan, the Dallas Cowboys were always on our TV on Thanksgiving Day growing up, so it is a complete honor to be a part of their 25th Thanksgiving Day halftime show supporting The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign,” Combs said.
His most recent single, “What You See Ain’t Always What You Get,” debuted No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart and No. 1 on the Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. It was his 11th consecutive number one single.
Lions halftime show for Thanksgiving

But, I’m a diehard. I’m a Lions fan for life, so I’m riding with them either way.”
This is also not Big Sean’s first time performing at a Thanksgiving halftime show. He headlined the Lions’ show in 2015. In previous halftime shows in Detriot, Brothers Osborne, Mike Posner, Jason Derulo and Andy Grammer in the last few years.
