Connor McDavid wants to pump you up.
The Edmonton Oilers star has teamed up with former NHLer Gary Roberts to create workouts and challenges aimed at helping fans stay active at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. They plan on posting videos to Twitter and Instagram throughout the month of April.
On Monday they posted their first video: a 15-minute circuit of squats, wall-sits, push-ups and squat holds that is done four times.
Roberts, a veteran of more than 20 seasons who owns the Gary Roberts High Performance Centre and Fitness Institute in Ontario, has worked with McDavid since he was drafted first overall by the Oilers back in 2015. Roberts also was part of the team that helped him get back on the ice following his knee injury suffered in the last game of the 2018-19 season, as shown in the 2020 documentary, “Connor McDavid: Whatever It Takes.”
While this video is a great way for fans and players to stay connected — and of course, stay active — it was lacking in one thing: Lenny. McDavid’s adorable miniature bernedoodle, who appeared in a previous video where the Oilers’ captain was doing squats, did not make an appearance.
Here’s my #HomeTeam challenge. How many squats can you do in 30 seconds? How are you getting creative with your home workouts? #StayInside @adidasca @adidashockey
