F1 fans have theory that Schumacher’s crash was to stop Hamilton’s record win

Formula 1 fans have claimed that Mick Schumacher’s crash in Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was to stop Lewis Hamilton ’s record win.

The German driver suffered a heavy crash which caused damage to the barrier and forced the race to be stopped on the 14 th lap, after the safety car was initially deployed.

Several drivers including leader Hamilton had taken the opportunity to pit, which allowed Max Verstappen to enter the lead.

The English driver is looking to win a record eighth Championship and beat Michael Schumacher ’s record.

Some fans saw the irony that the son of the man Hamilton could overtake, might’ve stopped him.

One person wrote: “Imagine if Mick Schumacher just stopped Lewis Hamilton from beating his dad’s record for most drivers’ championships.”

Others took to Twitter to theorise it could’ve been a deliberate move to keep his father’s current record intact.

One person wrote: “Mick Schumacher preventing Lewis beating his dad’s tally of seven world titles, is it?”

Another added: “Mick Schumacher crashing into the barriers so Max can get lap position and so Lewis doesn’t break his dad’s record. Chess not checkers.”

With a third also joking: “Mick Schumacher doing it for his dad. There's no way Lewis Hamilton gonna have more championships than daddy. Do it again at Yas Marina. Go Mick.”

Meanwhile one person pointed to previous evidence that this could’ve all been part of a plan.

They wrote: “Remember that tweet about Mick Schumacher doing something to stop Lewis overtaking his dad?”

Eventually Hamilton was able to retake the lead and secure victory for Mercedes.

The English driver and his rival Verstappen head into the final race of the year, which takes place in Abu Dhabi on December 12, level on points.
