Italian Grand Prix farce with nine drivers under investigation including Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton is one of nine F1 drivers under investigation after a farcical final lap of Italian Grand Prix qualifying.

Only seven drivers had set times in Q3 before Kimi Raikkonen crashed into a wall early on.

Drivers slowly made their way around the track waiting for the opportunity to get a toe and then throttle once again.

But time ran out before the majority of stars reached the start line and only Carlos Sainz was able to complete a final lap.

The majority of the field was congested and some drivers attempted to overtake each other to try and get to the start line in time.

But they fell short so Leclerc will start on pole, unless the investigation warrants any punishment.

Hamilton also secured a front-row spot in second place, ahead of Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas.

But the Brit is unhappy with the way everybody was backed up and he blames Leclerc.

“It’s interesting. Get pole position on the first run and then just time everyone out,” Hamilton said of Leclerc.

“It’s risky business.”

Meanwhile, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff slammed those responsible for causing the chaos.

“That was not even worthy of a junior formula,” he said. “Everybody looks like idiots.”
