Lewis Hamilton is up against five other contenders for Sports Personality of the Year 2019. The Mercedes driver was in imperious form this season as he sealed a sixth F1 world title. He is now just one behind Michael Schumacher’s all-time record.
“I feel so much emotion, to my whole team here, the people back at the factory, I’ve got my family here, my aunt from Trinidad,” Hamilton said afterwards.
“My dad told me when I was six or seven never to give up and that’s kind of the family motto, I was hopeful I might win today but we didn’t have it in the tyres unfortunately.
“As an athlete I feel as fresh as can be right now, and for these races remaining we won’t let up now. Pleased for all the Brits and people with the UK flags supporting me here.”
Does Lewis Hamilton have a girlfriend?
The 34-year-old F1 icon appears to be single at the moment.
He told The Times in September 2018 that his love life was “non-existent” due to his hectic schedule.
“I’m a workaholic. I don’t have time for it,” the Mercedes driver said.
“When you travel as much as I do it’s hard to keep up a relationship, so I’m of the mindset that I’m not going to do that until I’ve stopped and no longer have to be so single-minded.
“I want to have kids, but I want to be there for them — to be a good and present dad — but I’d be open to it if I happened to come across somebody special.”
Who has Lewis Hamilton dated previously?
Hamilton’s most notable relationship was with pop star and TV personality Nicole Scherzinger.
The pair got together in 2007 and dated on and off until 2015 before splitting due to the long-distance nature of their relationship.
Hamilton has been linked with several other high-profile celebrities over the years.

He was seen spending time with singer Rihanna in New York before hanging out with Rita Ora, who was also a guest of his at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2016.
However, none of the rumoured relationships were ever confirmed.
Hamilton was also linked with model Jasmine Sanders ahead of the 2019 F1 season.
He was spotted with Sanders at Paris Fashion Week but later took to social media to hit back at speculation they were an item.
“It’s a sad world when a man cannot have female colleagues or friends without the media making it seem something it isn’t,” Hamilton wrote on Instagram.
“All these years you’ve tried to discredit my name, discredit my image, I’m still here and rising.
“No matter what you do or say, I will continue to rise til the day I die. And no, there is no new flame so please stop attaching their name to me.
“Once again, fake news. Simply gave a friend a lift. When you one day see me holding hands with a woman, then you can write a new flame.”
