Lewis Hamilton has crashed into the wall in a jumbled-up qualifying session that saw Lando Norris take pole position at the Russian Grand Prix. As all drivers came to change their tyres for dry weather slicks, Hamilton lost control leaving his pit spot and hit the wall.
In what looked like it could be a washed-out qualifying session, the weather cleared up just long enough for the session to get underway – with Max Verstappen deciding against taking part in much of the session due to his grid penalties.
However, in the third part of qualifying, Williams driver George Russell was the first to dive into the pits to change for the slick tyres as the conditions started clearing up in Sochi.
Yet the Williams twitched as it left the pits, with many questioning whether the 23-year-old had taken the right gamble.
Shortly after though, all the drivers made their way into the pits to change for dry tyres, before disaster struck for the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
