Lewis Hamilton ignoring Martin Brundle and Eddie Jordan to end F1 ‘dream’

Lewis Hamilton appears to have completely waved goodbye to the possibility of fulfilling an F1 ‘dream’ of his to drive for Ferrari with a new Mercedes contract close to being signed. Hamilton has just six months remaining on his contract with reports emerging this year that Ferrari were ready to test his resolve with a mega-money offer to steal him from Mercedes.

The seven-time world champion has admitted in the past that driving for Ferrari is a “dream position to be in”. He also stated back in 2021 that it was “never really fully on the cards for me”, although that looked to have changed with a reported approach from Ferrari this year.

The wild rumours over Hamilton’s future had led to plenty of talk in the paddock with former drivers giving their views on the matter. While most couldn’t see Hamilton ever choosing to leave Mercedes, both Martin Brundle and Eddie Jordan liked the idea of the British racing superstar jumping ship to Ferrari.

“I would love to see Lewis in a Ferrari,” Brundle said. “I really would. It would be such a great story. That’s with my Sky F1 cap on and F1 cap on. He doesn’t want some long-term deal at Mercedes [as an] ambassador. He can go back to that one day.”

Jordan told Express Sport: “There’s only one place he could go to in my opinion and that is Ferrari. A guy with the talent that he is, and I think it might be a [match made] in heaven. I think Ferrari need shaking up and I think Lewis Hamilton needs shaking up, if they are going to continue.

“If Lewis is going to continue then I think he needs a change. For his mindset, for his drive, for an initiative, for fun. Learning Italian, dealing and eating pasta with those guys, it’s a different world. And having run a team we always saw how different Ferrari operates and I would love to see Lewis in that environment.”

But it looks as though Hamilton will soon sign a new contract with Mercedes after dropping a huge hint on Sunday. “I haven’t signed anything yet, but I think we are meeting with Toto tomorrow [Monday] so hopefully we can get something done,” he said.

Hamilton also suggested that getting the contract talks out of the way would help him perform on track. “We’ve had so many meetings and this is just another one of the meetings we are having.

“You could see today my performance is not affected by that, but it’s always something that’s at the back of your mind. Once that’s done then you are able to then focus more and think about the future.

“I’m working as hard as I can with this team and I see so much strength within the team. They are still so hungry.”
