According to SportsMole, Haas has now decided to replace Schumacher with ex-F1 star Nico Hulkenberg. They claim a deal between the pair could be announced before the Brazilian Grand Prix as speculation over the Haas seat rises.
Hulkenberg stepped in for Sergio Perez and Sebastian Vettel when both missed races after testing positive for coronavirus. But, it will mark the end of the Schumacher name in F1 after the 23-year-old failed to impress team bosses Guenther Steiner and Gene Haas.
Ahead of the United States Grand Prix, Haas claimed Schumacher needed to score consistent points finishes to save his seat. Since, Schumacher has failed to score in the last two races in a major blow to his chances of staying on.
Haas said: “Mick needs to get a few points and we’re giving him as much time as possible to see what he can do. If he wants to stay with us he has to show that he can get more points.” To compound his issues, Schumacher made another error in qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix.
The former F2 champion looked set for a good result before cutting a corner and being chucked out in Q1. It comes just weeks after Schumacher destroyed the team’s car at the Japanese Grand Prix, his third major accident this season.
Haas team principal Steiner was coy in Mexico City as he still claimed the team had not yet made their mind up. He explained: We will get to a decision – hopefully soon. But nothing is decided 100 per cent yet.
“We are just going through the last details of what we have to sort out, and then we will make a decision. This is an important decision for the team, and there is enough to focus on to get better.”

However, Schumacher’s latest error was slammed by many including Sky Sports pundit Martin Brundle and even his own uncle. Ralf Schumacher, brother of Michael, admitted his nephew needed to “learn quickly” to stay on the grid for 2023.
He explained: “But such mistakes actually shouldn’t happen. It happened even to Hamilton, but that shouldn’t be an excuse. It’s a learning process but he has to be learning quickly. He was in a different world compared to his teammate, but that alone makes it more difficult for the team to make a decision.
“The team is relying on him, especially with his pace.”
