Spanish Grand Prix could be set to move from Barcelona to Madrid after 2026 as F1 chief Stefano Domenicali reveals ambitious plans to build a new track in the capital

Madrid has moved a step closer to joining the Formula One roster after talks in the city this week with the sport’s chief executive Stefano Domenicali.
Officials there outlined their ambitious plans to build a new track, which may eventually see the Spanish Grand Prix move from Barcelona, its home since 1991.
Barcelona remains contracted to host the event until 2026, after which Madrid is likely to emerge as the leading contender to take over.
It is not envisaged that Spain will hold more than one race on a programme that is increasingly global.
Speaking at the launch of the F1 Exhibition in Madrid, Domenicali said: ‘They are working to bring a race here and F1 is delighted to have so many contenders, because this way we become more and more popular.’
