Tsunoda accuses his own team of trying to crash him in furious Monaco radio rant

Yuki Tsunoda accused his AlphaTauri of trying to 'crash him' as he launched a furious tirade against his own team during the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Japanese driver is renowned for his fiery radio rants but his message as he battled to keep his car on track with rain falling was one of his angriest yet.

Amid a largely processional affair, there was some excitement in the final third of the race as heavy rain fell on the principality, prompting a flurry of pitstops to intermediate tyres. Some drivers fared better than others in the treacherous conditions, with Tsunoda finding it particularly tricky.

At one point, he unleashed an extraordinary outburst at his engineer, who had asked his to driver to “find some pace”, adding “do you best, I know it’s difficult”.

Tsunoda didn’t hold back in reply, fuming: “I know but this brake sucks!” After being given some advice and encouragement from the engineer, Tsunoda then raged: “Are you trying to crash me or what?”

Many fans weren’t surprised by the rant, with one saying: “It’s Yuki Tsunoda, could we expect any less?”

Another said: “Such an angry little dude. Love it.”

Tsunoda did get to the finish without crashing, coming home 15th, two laps behind winner and championship leader Max Verstappen.

Fernando Alonso took second despite a gamble, which saw him switch to fresh slick tyres as the rain fell, failing to pay off. Alpine's Esteban Ocon completed the podium ahead of Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, who was hit with a five-second penalty for reversing into the path of Sergio Perez’s Red Bull after sliding off the track in the slippery conditions.

Perez, who started at the back after crashing in qualifying, limped home a lowly 16th.
