For every Isaac Heeney, Callum Mills or Nick Blakey to come out of Sydney’s academy, there are many more diamonds in the rough that find their way into the red and white.

A quick glance at the Swans best and fairest honour board shows the names Dane Rampe and Jake Lloyd, both from the rookie list. So, too, was the club’s leading goalkicker from the past two years, Tom Papley.

Premiership heroes Brett Kirk, Kieren Jack, Nick Smith and Heath Grundy were all graduates of the rookie draft as well.

It’s early days but in Joel Amartey, Swans recruiting guru Kinnear Beatson may have unearthed more treasure from deep in the draft.

Bulldogs, Swans turn turnovers into goals

Western Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by 17.6 points per game from
turnovers this season – ranked second. Sydney has outscored its opposition by 10.2
points per game via that source – ranked fourth. The Swans outscored the Eagles by
60 points from turnovers in Round 16 – their biggest differential in 2021.
