Hawks For Change issued a statement on Friday night slamming the club’s process in nominating vice-president Nankivell to succeed Kennett as “flawed, failed and wrong”.
The club announced on Thursday senior lawyer Nankivell had been nominated to take over from Kennett at this year’s AGM in December.
The group is deeply unhappy Nankivell, as the chair of the nominations committee to find Kennett’s replacement, has ended up with the job.
Nankivell said on Thursday he initially had no interest in the role but was asked by the club’s board to reconsider his position after it was determined no candidate had sufficient experience to become president.
Kennett told The Age the club would not take the group seriously until they put a name to their campaign.
More to come.
