This year’s AFL grand final will be played in the afternoon as it returns to the MCG, with the league bowing to fan sentiment and sticking with a 2.30pm start time on Saturday September 24.
The AFL commission told clubs of the decision on Friday morning, reverting to tradition after COVID-19 forced the grand final to be played interstate and in a night timeslot on the east coast in the past two seasons.
The match will return to the MCG in 2022 and back to its original timeslot.
