Incoming Queensland coach Wayne Bennett has made the brutal call to sack his former club skipper Justin Hodges from the Maroons coaching staff.
Rabbitohs coach Bennett will lead the Maroons into battle when his commitments with South Sydney wrap up, but he has wasted no time in making some tough calls.
Nine News Queensland’s Ben Dobbins reported that Bennett will replace 2019 Queensland assistant Hodges with the more experienced Neill Henry.

“Wayne Bennett believed he needed to have more experienced assistant coaches with him to help as they have an uphill battle taking on NSW,” Dobbins said.
“The bloodletting began with Justin Hodges, last year’s assistant, let go by Wayne Bennett and [he] will not be involved in this year’s series.”
Bennett’s decision to cut his 2015 Broncos skipper in favour of a more experienced coach is not expected to be the only casualty when the Queensland squad is announced on Wednesday.

Cowboys forward Josh McGuire is expected to be overlooked after 14 games for the Maroons since 2015.
However Dobbins believes that 30-year-old McGuire could be set for a shock return to the Broncos under Kevin Walters in 2021.

“My mail is that he might end up at the Brisbane Broncos next year,” Dobbins said.
