AC Milan ‘on the verge of signing Dinamo Zagreb star Dani Olmo for £26m’ after Barcelona pulled out of race for 21-year-old striker

  • Reports say Milan are ‘on the verge’ of acquiring Dinamo Zagreb’s Dani Olmo

AC Milan are reportedly ‘on the verge of signing £26million-rated striker Dani Olmo’ from Dinamo Zagreb.

Mundo Deportivo report that after Barcelona pulled out of the running for the 21-year-old, Serie A giants Milan have moved into pole position as they look to overhaul their attack this month.

The club have already brought in 38-year-old veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic and with Krzysztof Piatek set to leave, Olmo would bolster the options available to boss Stefano Pioli.

AC Milan are reportedly closing in on signing 21-year-old Dinamo Zagreb striker Dani Olmo

Milan have already bolstered their attacking options by bringing back Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The report details that AC Milan chief Zvonimir Boban ‘presented an offer of €30m (£26m) to Dinamo Zagreb’ in a bid to secure a deal for Olmo.

His contract in Zagreb is due to expire in 2021 and so the club could look to cash in on their asset in the winter window.

Milan have kept tabs on Olmo for some time and were believed to be close to acquiring him last summer, only to fail in reaching an agreement with Dinamo Zagreb.

He had been viewed as a suitable replacement for Luis Suarez at Barcelona but the Catalan giants chose against the move and that has given Milan a clear route to the signing.

Olmo left Barcelona for current side Dinamo Zagreb in 2014 and has thrived ever since

He has impressed scouts with Manchester United among the clubs said to be interested

When quizzed on Barcelona’s interest in him, he recently told L’Esportiu via Sport that he was happy that the reigning Spanish champions made an approach for him.

He said: ‘It makes me happy that Barcelona have made an offer for me.

‘I spent six years in the Masia and they taught me life-long values, so I am happy that the reported interested has turned into a concrete proposal from the club.

‘My goal is to go to the European Championships this summer but it will be difficult for me if in the next six months I only play in a minor competition, such as in Croatia.’

‘I want to step forward. And not only to go to the European Championship, but also to continue improving. It is not that he is offering me, it is that I am prepared to take a step forward in my career.’

Olmo joined Zagreb from Barcelona’s La Masia academy in 2014, but his fine performances for his club domestically and in Europe have alerted a number of top clubs.

The highly-rated Spain international is out of contract in 2021 and he could be sold this month
