Andre Onana made a major howler to gift Bayern Munich the lead in their Champions League clash with Manchester United.

United's No. 1 should have comfortably dealt with Leroy Sane's low shot from the edge of the box. But he completely fumbled the ball, sending it into the bottom left corner instead.

Onana cut a deflated figure as he laid face-down on the floor after the error. Bayern then doubled their lead just four minutes later as Serge Gnabry finished from Jamal Musiala's pull back.

The opener was reminiscent of David de Gea's blunder against West Ham last year – and United fans bemoaned yet another mistake in between the sticks on social media.

One fumed: "Nah Onana I'm in f***ing tears, he’s De Gea in disguise." A second wrote: "The spirit of De Gea lives on in Onana." And a third argued: "Onana is a downgrade on De Gea."

A fourth pointed out: "They tried showing the De Gea vs West Ham clip when they compared Onana and De Gea's shot stopping, then he goes and does the same thing."

While a fifth commented: "Onana had to do once what De Gea always does at least once in a season.

Onana admitted replacing De Gea "isn't easy" in the pre-match press conference. He told reporters: “I’m happy to be here. Replacing David is not something easy. I’m trying to do my best of course.

“The start of the season is not what we want but we believe better will come. The situation will turn and I’m very confident. I know everything will be alright."
