Roccuzzo and Balbi’s friendship began in 2014 after Suarez joined Messi at FC Barcelona
Suarez and Messi combined for 621 goals in 258 games while playing together in Barcelona
The two may soon be reunited in Florida as talks of Suarez joining Messi in MLS side Inter Miami reach fever pitch.
On November 1, El Pais reported that the 2023 Leagues Cup winners reached out to Suarez’s Brazilian club Gremio to inquire about his availability. With Suarez scheduled to visit in December, the Herons have already released forward Josef Martinez to make room for the former Premier League Golden Boot winner.
Roccuzzo and Balbi’s friendship started when Suarez joined Messi at Barcelona in 2014. In 258 games together, Messi and Suarez collected 621 goals.
Messi assisted Suarez for 43 goals and Suarez played the last pass for 56 of Messi’s. They also won 13 trophies while playing for the Catalan side, including four La Liga titles and Barca’s five-trophy season in 2015.
Suarez has since played for Atletico Madrid and Nacional in his native Uruguay before landing in Porto Alegre with Gremio. In the last year, Suarez scored 17 goals in 37 appearances while dealing with knee injuries.
On the other hand, Messi had a dreadful stint with Paris Saint Germain and left to join Miami after winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina in December. Although they missed the MLS Playoffs, Messi helped Miami towards their first trophy in the Leagues Cup and a finals appearance in the US Open Cup.
Suarez signing with Miami would reunite him with Messi and former Barca teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.
