Antonio Conte wants a meeting with Manchester United’s board members to show what he could bring to Old Trafford, it has been claimed. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only signed a fresh three-year contract back in the summer. However, his team have been erratic in the short time since and go into tonight’s Champions League clash with Atalanta with two wins from their last seven matches.
It wasn’t meant to be like this for Manchester United this season.
After a big summer spending spree that saw Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo touch down at Old Trafford, the Red Devils were being tipped to challenge for the biggest prizes on offer.
However, Solskjaer has struggled to coax the best from his star-studded squad with the Red Devils currently stuck in a rut.
With just two wins from their last seven matches, the pressure is on the Norwegian to get a result against Atalanta in the Champions League tonight.
Given United lost their opening match of the competition to Young Boys, another defeat would be a hammer blow to their hopes of making the knockout stages of the competition.
And with Liverpool up next on Sunday, Solskjaer appears to already be in a fight to save his job.

Now, Eurosport’s Dean Jones has claimed Conte wants to meet with the United hierarchy to show how he’d steer them back to the top of the game.
He told Touchline Talk: “Conte, we’ve seen that he can go into clubs short-term and have a big impact.
“I’m told, from somebody who spoke to Conte very recently, that he’s certainly interested in the idea and would love the chance to just pitch to the United board about how he would transform this team and how he would turn them into winners.
“But at the moment, there’s no signs he’s going to get the chance to make that pitch.”
Conte has been a huge success everywhere he’s been.

After spells at Arezzo, Bari, Atalanta and Siena, he was given the Juventus job in May 2011.
And he brought the glory days back to Turin, winning five trophies during his time in charge – including three Serie A crowns.
Conte managed the Italy national team for two years before taking charge of Chelsea in 2016.
And he didn’t disappoint at Stamford Bridge, claiming the Premier League and FA Cup trophies during a two-year spell.
Conte also spent two years at Inter Milan.
And he left on a high back in the summer, having steered the club to the Scudetto and ended Juventus’ dominance of the division in the process.
Whether United grant Conte his wish of a meeting remains to be seen.
But he appears the frontrunner to take over, along with Zinedine Zidane, should Solskjaer be relieved of his duties.
Meanwhile, Gary Neville recently opened up on the possibility of Conte replacing Solskjaer at Old Trafford.
And he expressed a belief that it wouldn’t happen because he’s not the right ‘fit’ for the Red Devils.
“Conte won’t be the manager at Manchester United, I don’t think,” he said.
“I don’t think they’ll go for that option, personally.
“He’s a great manager but I think certain managers fit certain clubs and I don’t think Conte fits United personally. As I say, great manager but doesn’t feel right for me that one.”
And he then added: “I’m not into that, giving someone a squad.
“We tried that with Jose, ‘Give Jose a squad and we’ll definitely win the league’. We didn’t, and in the end, it was a mess and everybody wanted him out.”
