Aouar is "next on Arsenal radar" as club provide insight on transfer policy

Arsenal could well still make a move for Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar, and it would not be a surprise to see them make another bid for the player in January.

That is the opinion of former Gunners forward Kevin Campbell, who is convinced that the club will not be deterred after a move for the Frenchman broke down this summer.

The Gunners were strongly linked with the 22-year-old in the last few weeks, but Lyon held firm over their £55m valuation of the player and in the end nothing materialised.

Arsenal instead splashed the cash on Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid on deadline day, but there is speculation that they have not yet given up on Aouar.

And when asked on The Highbury Squad YouTube channel who Arsenal should target when the transfer window next opens in January, Campbell insisted they should attempt to go for Aouar again.

"Who is next? Houssem Aouar, we missed you. We didn’t get you this time!" Campbell said.

"Whether we can get you in January, I’m not sure. But I’m sure you’re next on the radar for Mikel Arteta and Edu.

"Somebody like yourself to add to the quality of that midfield, attacking, creative side. You hopefully will be a Gunner at some stage in the future."

Aouar was also linked with the likes of Real Madrid and PSG, and it seems inevitable that he will move on to join an elite club sooner rather than later.

Arsenal's technical director Edu, meanwhile, has spoken openly about the club's workings in the transfer market, lifting the lid on the policy they follow behind the scenes.

In an interview with Arsenal's official website, the Brazilian said: "One day I would like to show the fans how we work, or how we worked because if you saw my plan six or seven months ago when I did it with Mikel, Thomas was there already.

"So you see how many months we had to try to find the right player for the club.

"So many things to do, so many meetings, we had to see how we were going to buy the player, if we had the financial situation to buy the player, the legal process, the financial process, talk to the player, talk to the agent, so there are a lot of things around this but in the end we did it!"
