Arsenal backed to sign their own Haaland netxt month face Chelsea tussle
Arsenal 'ready to sell Thomas Partey' to raise funds for three-man January transfer list
Arsenal have been told that Brentford striker Ivan Toney can have the same impact as Erling Haaland at Manchester City, should they beat Chelsea to what would be a blockbuster January transfer. The England forward returns from suspension next month and has already spoken publicly about a potential move.
Toney has been banned for the entirety of the season so far after breaching the FA’s betting rules, but last year proved to be one of the top strikers in the Premier League. The Gunners are said to be interested in bolstering Mikel Arteta’s frontline with another forward and the club’s former goalkeeper David Seaman believes he can be Arsenal’s own Haaland.
“I would imagine that Arteta would be looking at it [signing Ivan Toney in January],” Seaman told The Sports Daily. “Especially with the injuries that Gabriel Jesus is suffering. Toney is good, he’s strong in the air, but he’s good with his feet as well. I’m comparing it to when Haaland came to Manchester City.
“People were asking why they needed a striker like that. They were already scoring the most goals in the league and winning the title without him, but then you see the impact he had. A big target man like him, who guarantees goals could certainly work at Arsenal.”

However, they are likely to encounter rival interest from Chelsea should Arsenal press on for Toney. The 27-year-old would not come cheap as Brentford have been known to be tough negotiators and could demand upwards of £60million for their star man.
Bees boss Thomas Frank has already dismissed the suggestion that Toney could depart in January. “Everyone saw what he did last year. It’s not like he broke a leg or did his ACL, so he’s fit and probably even more ambitious to get success,” he told the London Evening Standard.

“I’m convinced he will be absolutely on it. I don’t want to lose him. I hope, and think, he’ll be a Brentford player on February 1.”
Arteta has used Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard all up front this season with Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka either side of them on the wings to various degrees of success. However, a common complaint has been that the Gunners are not as fluid and free-flowing as last season when they came close to pipping Manchester City to the title.
Arsenal have scored 27 goals in 13 league games, the fewest of all the teams currently sat inside the top four, with Toney a potential option should they listen to Seaman – but will be wary of Chelsea lurking in the background.
