Arsenal can help Manchester United land Thomas Meunier by allowing Hector Bellerin to leave for Barcelona. Bellerin doesn’t have a future at Arsenal and is reportedly one of the options Barca are looking at in the search for a new right-back.

Meunier is another player to be linked with the Nou Camp club. However, he is also attracting interest from Erik ten Hag’s United.

Spanish outlet Sport claims the Belgian is Barca’s top right-back target alongside former Spurs star Juan Foyth. However, Dortmund’s asking price of around £12.6million is currently putting them off.

Barca’s financial situation means they are looking for bargain deals before the window shuts in two weeks’ time. Villarreal are claimed to want Foyth’s full release clause of £35m to be paid, which makes that deal even less likely than for Meunier.

But Arsenal can do Barca a favour. The Gunners could terminate Bellerin’s contract and therefore make him a free agent signing.

Bellerin is of interest to Barca and came through their academy before joining Arsenal in 2011. Talks were held between the player’s agent and Arsenal chiefs last week regarding his future.

A resolution is yet to be found but Bellerin wants to leave and the club are more than happy to facilitate his exit. And if Barca were to land the Spaniard, that would help United’s chances of signing Meunier.

The Telegraph says United have been quoted the same price as Barca to land the 30-year-old. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is not fancied by Ten Hag and will be allowed to leave Old Trafford if a suitable offer arrives.

Diogo Dalot has played the first two games of the season at right-back. But Meunier would provide an experienced option for the Red Devils.

He has spent the last two years at Dortmund after joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020. Meunier has started the opening two Bundesliga matches this term but it appears he is available at the right price.

He made his debut for Belgium in 2013 and has won 56 caps for his country. Signing a right-back is not the only priority for Ten Hag in the remainder of the window.

He wants to add quality and depth in attacking areas, with a host of players linked with a move in the last few days. Midfield is also an area of concern for Ten Hag, while he wants to bring in more competition for goalkeeper David de Gea.
