Arsenal chief Edu explains reasons behind Martin Odegaard loan signing

Arsenal chief Edu has hailed the arrival of an "exceptional talent" as the club confirmed the loan signing of Martin Odegaard.

The Norwegian arrives from Real Madrid until the end of the season following weeks of speculation.

Odegaard, who has recently enjoyed success in a loan spell at Real Sociedad, will help bolster Arsenal's attack.

The Gunners have rediscovered the winning formula this month but prior to that had endured a lengthy winless run.

A lack of creativity has been pinpointed as an issue for Arsenal and Edu was keen to highlight how the 22-year-old will help in that area.

“We are delighted to welcome Martin to the club until the end of the season," he told the club's official website.

"I would like to thank everyone at Real Madrid and Martin’s representatives for their collaboration in making this loan move happen.

"Martin is an exceptional talent and we are strengthening our squad by introducing an exciting offensive player to the club for the remaining months of this season.”

Odegaard had played just nine times in all competitions for Madrid this season, but is set to be far more regular in Mikel Arteta's side.

Arsenal already have one Los Blancos loanee in their squad in the form of Dani Ceballos.

The Gunners could yet mount a late charge for a European spot and Arteta has highlighted the blend of youth and experience that the Norwegian will bring.

“It’s great that we’ve secured Martin to come to us until the end of the season," he said.

"Martin is of course a player that we all know very well and although still young, he has been playing at the top level for a while."

Odegaard will wear the No 11 shirt and could make his debut in the crunch clash with Manchester United this weekend.
