Arsenal chief Edu ‘has £100m transfer plan’ as Arteta open to two late signings

Arsenal sporting director Edu hopes to raise a further £100million through player sales before the end of the summer transfer window, according to reports. Mikel Arteta is open to making two more signings but a number of departures will likely have to be finalised first.

Arsenal: Arteta admits Arsenal could dip back in market after Jurrien Timber injury

Arsenal have spent over £210m on four new signings this summer. Declan Rice became the club’s record buy after arriving for a fee of up to £105m from West Ham.

The Gunners have started the season strongly as they attempt to go one better and win their first title since 2004. They have collected narrow, if not convincing, wins over Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.

But there is still plenty of work to be done in the transfer window before the deadline on September 1. To help balance the books, Edu is attempting to offload a number of unwanted players.

Arsenal have already brought in around £40m from sales. However, the Mail reports that Edu wants to raise a further £100m in the next nine days.

Folarin Balogun is valued at £50m and is in talks over a move to Monaco. Chelsea are also interested in signing the USA international.

Balogun is keen to play regular first-team football and doesn’t believe he will get that at Arsenal. The same report says Arteta may consider selling Gabriel if they can find a replacement.

Gabriel has not started either of the first two matches and has received interest from Saudi Arabia and Real Madrid. Six other players could also be on their way out of the Emirates.

Arsenal’s new kit for 2023/2024 is a stylish twist on a classic as it reinvents that mid-1990s vibe. Kieran Tierney and Albert Sambi Lokonga are not in Arteta’s plans. Tierney has been linked with Newcastle and Real Sociedad, while Brighton are keen on Lokonga after talks with Burnley fell through.

Cedric Soares, Rob Holding, Nicolas Pepe and Nuno Tavares all could go too. Of the eight players Arsenal could sell, only Gabriel has been named in a Premier League match-day squad this season.

But while Edu attempts to sell, Arteta is still open to buying. The Mail says Arsenal could enter the market to sign a defender or a right-sided winger.

Arsenal lost £38m signing Jurrien Timber to a serious knee injury earlier this month which will rule him out for most of the season. Meanwhile, a winger could be sought to provide support to Bukayo Saka after he featured in his club-record 82nd straight Premier League match on Monday.
